  1. MOOCO

MOOCO
, a “MObile Online Communications platform”, was first started as a collaboration project with an objective to explore the interactivity among computers and smartphones. At that time, legacy feature phones were still adopted as market mainstream and smartphones had basic capabilities for handling general tasks with a little touch screen and simple interface. Since importance of mobile learning was perceived, MOOCO platform research was synergized with educational direction so as to promote teaching and learning process into a new dimension.

Recent education policies encourage learning opportunities and experience to be raised not only within traditional classes but also off the classrooms. MOOCO has evolved to MoocoPLUS, where PLUS stands for Portable Learning Utility Solution, and it is a mobile learning tool for motivating interactions between teachers and students for knowledge transfer. It has a perfect match with the up-coming education policies and can definitely bring along multitude of opportunities in delivering education in a more effective way. MoocoPLUS was experimented with groups of students from different schools. The outcome was good and its effectiveness in organizing teaching activities was well recognized.

The present development of MOOCO continues to strengthen interactions between teachers and students and enhances the platform to integrate with multimedia broadcast to facilitate real-time teaching and deliver online courses. Also more platforms and wider range of devices will be supported in order to extend the application to reach teachers and students from different kinds of schools.

The MOOCO platform has these benefits:

  1. “Campus IPTV” Technology

Schools recognized the value of audio visual communications a long time ago.  Students became more engaged when moving pictures and sound were a part of the learning process.  That recognition of the power of video communication drove a lot of spending by many schools and universities. They bought cameras, recorders, monitors, projectors and video editing systems. That was thirty years ago.

Today, the technology scenario is even more exciting. High definition video cameras are cheap enough that every student can own one.  3D cameras are coming onto the market at very low prices.  Small auto-stereoscopic 3D screens are in the market. Large screens will soon follow. The opportunities for engaging the students in a much more immersive fashion are abundant.

But even more exciting is the ability to distribute the video on a very wide scale, very cheaply.  YouTube, Vimeo, Vividas and other Internet TV platforms are transforming the world of television entertainment and infotainment. It is now completely feasible for a high school to build and run its own TV station and distribute the channels not only throughout the campus, but city wide and even internationally. No special video distribution or transmission network is required.  Only a good local area network and an OTT (Over-The-Top) IP streaming platform is required for campus-wide TV.

And to broadcast the schools content beyond the school fence, only good Internet bandwidth is needed.  Hong Kong is one of the best connected cities in the world.  Schools here are no longer limited by technology or cost, but only by the will and the imagination to get started.

And to help schools make that start, expert help is available.
